Spotless Office Equals Happy Workers

Spotless Office Equals Happy Workers
Who says that a clean office does not relate to a healthy lifestyle? To many, the office is a second home. It’s where you, basically, live most of your day and where you accomplish most of what you do in your life.

Keeping it squeaky clean should matter immensely to you because, contrary to popular belief, a cluttered work environment not only adds to your own stress but also reduces work morale. Your effectiveness and productivity as a worker will inevitably plunge downhill.

Tidying up is one thing but keeping it spick and span is another. So, if you feel like you’re brave enough to let go of some “unnecessaries,” here is a guideline that you might want to consider in your upcoming spring cleaning:

  1. Boundaries. The very first thing you’d want to do is to establish your workspace limits. Your problem is not having enough space, it’s actually just too much stuff lying around. You need to know exactly what things are essential to you so that you can stop the inflow of papers, pens, Post-its and what-nots on your desk and into your office.

When you can get everything under control, then you can start the elimination process.

  2. Eating at your desk is a big ‘No-no’. Food is, literally, behind the stench, grease and filth on your workspace. A working lunch or an office dinner “with the gang” may be ideal for you, but if you want to keep your desk in shipshape, then you’re going to have to let go of the habit.
  3. Decontaminate! The best way to get rid of germs is to disinfect your office, particularly your desktop. A dirty desk is the primary source of colds, flu and other diseases commonly contracted in an unsanitary environment.

Go big on hygiene, especially when your immune system isn’t exactly on the top of its game. Keeping a couple of hand sanitizers and some paper tissues should do the trick.

  4. Commit to a schedule. ‘Save-the-date’ once a week or twice a month, depending on what works best for you. We all know how work escalates sometimes, and we completely understand.

So, if your office and/or personal bins are not regularly cleaned out by office staff, you can dispose of them yourself by establishing a personal bin-dump routine. You may maintain an e-mail reminder or a marked calendar to assist you in implementing your routine.

Remember that with a tidy, less stressful workplace, happier, healthier workforce easily goes about office responsibilities because they feel comfortable and at ease in their work environment. Nurturing a work ethic built to reward and promote cleanliness is definitely something guaranteed to pay off.
